六月十四日(rokugatsu jyuyokka): June 14

There are four newspapers at my office, and we have one in my house.
The top article of the front page of today's paper was all about the Hayabusa (はやぶさ) capsule landed in desert. Hayabusa is the space probe launched in May 2003 and landed on the asteroid Itokawa (イトカワ) which is about 300 million km from the Earth. It's been 7 years since it came back to the earth.
This is the world's first splendid accomplishment to travel to the celestial bodies besides the Moon. It was a long voyage of about 6,000,000,000km which is about 5 rounds around the Sun.
The capsule looks like a Chinese flying pan of about 40cm in diameter and 20cm in height. It was found in the Australian desert, possibly containing the first asteroid surface samples.
The new exploration of the space has started.
