三月十日(sangatsu toka) : March 10

It was another cold day. It snowed heavily in many places but not here. One of the most impressive news around this area was the big ginkgo tree of the Tsurugaoka hachimangu(鶴岡八幡宮) in Kamakura (鎌倉) fell down because of the strong northwest wind which contained snow blown since last evening. The height was about 30 meters tall, the circumference is 6.8 meters long, and the age of the tree was more than one thousand years old.

Another big news of today was the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters). It is an Order of France established on May 2, 1957 by the Minister of Culture. Its purpose is the recognition of significant contributions to the arts, literature, or the propagation of these fields.
Mr. Takeshi Kitano(北野武),a.k.a. Beat Takeshi(ビートたけし) received this honorable award today as a movie director. He is a comedian, actor, MC, film editor, presenter, screenwriter, filmmaker, author, poet, painter, and so on. That is he is a multi-talented person and was recognized his talent by French people. Congratulations!
