It was very hot today.
September 9 is choyo (重陽) Double Nineth Festival or kiku no sekku (菊の節句) Chrysanthemum Festival. There are five festivals in a year. They are jinjitsu (人日) on January 7, joshi (上巳) on March 3, tango (端午) on May 5, tanabata (七夕) on July 7, and choyo on September 9. March 3 is also known as momo no sekku (桃の節句) Peach Festival which is girl's festival, and May 5 is also known as shobu no sekku (菖蒲の節句) Calamus Festival which is boy's festival.
But as far as I know we do not do anything special these days for choyo.
September 9 is written as 9.9. 9 is read as kyu. So it is read kyukyu. Therefore September 9 is known as kyukyu no hi (救急の日), Day of Emergency.
