四月二十九日(shigatsu nijyuku nichi): April 29

It was a national holiday called Showa no hi (昭和の日) today. While the Emperor Showa (昭和天皇:showa tenno) was alive it was a national holiday called Tenno tanjo bi (天皇誕生日), the Emperor's birthday. After his passing, it became a national holiday called midori no hi (みどりの日), Green Day. Since 2007 it has become Showa no hi.
It is the beginning of the Golden Week. If you take a day off tomorrow, you can get a week off vacation. If you take three days off on April 30, May 6, and 7, you can get 11 days off. I wish to take such a vacation to travel to Patagonia and Florida, but I could not.
Instead I went to see two movies today. One is Wolfman, the other is Shutter Island. This time the common theme was mental institution. I liked the latter one better, though it is rather long.
