It rained. We still have earthquakes here and there. There was no planned blackout today.
Today is a national holiday called shunbun no hi (春分の日), the Vernal Equinox Day. Shunbun (春分) literally means spring divide. It is the day the length of the day and the night is equal. It is one of nijyushisekki (二十四節季), the 24 solar terms. The last one was keichitsu (啓蟄) on March 6, and the next one is seimei (清明) on April 5.
It is also higan no nakabi (彼岸の中日) or chunichi (中日), middle day of equinoctial week. We usually go to ancestor's grave and offer the sweets called botamochi (牡丹餅) or ohagi (御萩), rice cake covered with bean jam.
