March 3 is hinamatsuri (雛祭り), doll's festival. It is a girl's festival. It is not a holiday. The family with girls decorate dolls called hina ningyo (雛人形). The sweets for this festival are hina arare (雛あられ)and hishimochi (菱餅), the drink is shirozake (白酒).
March 3 is also day of ear, mimi no hi (耳の日) because 3.3 looks like ear and 3.3 is pronounce as mi (3) mi (3) .
