Today is a national holiday called taiiku no hi (体育の日), Physical Education Day. It was established in 1966 to commemorate the opening of the Tokyo Olympic in 1964. It has been on October 10, but since 2000 it falls on the second Monday of October to have a happy Monday. So it has been 6 years since 2005 which falls on October 10.
This is the three day weekend. It is a good season to see colored leaves. So many people must have been to the northern area to see them.
I was in Iwate last week, but leaves have not turned in red and yellow yet.
