April 29 is a national holiday called Showa no hi (昭和の日) since 2007. This day was used to be tencho setsu (天長節) from 1927 to 1948, tenno tanjyobi (天皇誕生日) from 1949 to 1988, and midori no hi (みどりの日) from 1989 to 2006. That is this was the day for ex-Emperor Showa(昭和天皇).
Since this is the official first day of golden week (ゴールデンウィーク), there were many events or traffic jams here and there. From Narita International Airport about 45,000 people went abroad today.
