Today is koku u (穀雨), one of the nijyushisekki (二十四節気), 24 solar terms. The last one was seimei (清明) on April 5 and the next one is rikka (立夏) on May 5.
Koku u literally means grain rain. That is, the rain which helps to grow the grain. There are many grain such as barley, wheat, oats, rice, maize, millet, sorghum. In Japan our staple diet is rice.
Rice is kome (米) in Japanese. If we cook rice, it is called go han (ご飯). Go han also means meals.
