Today is a national holiday called kinro kansha no hi (勤労感謝の日), Labor Thanksgiving Day. We do not practice anything special but we are glad it is a holiday.
In the United States the fourth Thursday of November is Thanksgiving Day or Turkey Day. In Canada the second Monday of October is Thanksgiving Day.
I only know the food in the USA. They are turkey with gravy sauce & cranberry sauce, mashed potato, pumpkin pie and so on. Since it is a big dinner, next few days turkey sandwiches or salad are served for lunch.
Next day is called Black Friday, and it is the time for shopping.
