January 15 is known as koshougatsu (小正月), literally small new year. There are some events or customs on this day such as eating azukigayu (小豆粥), rice porridge with red bean and donto yaki (どんと焼き) or sagicho (左義長), fire festival burning the new year's decoration.
But for me it is my father's birthday. I cooked sekihan (赤飯), red bean rice.
