2013.8.30

It was a windy day.  Very hot and humid.
In the morning I went to dentist to have one of the my wisdom teeth pulled out.  In Japanese wisdom tooth is oyashirazu (親知らず), literally meaning is "not knowing parents which is quite different the meaning of wisdom tooth.  I have been wondering why it is called so in Japanese and asked dentists and other staffs.  Many of them don't know the real reasons.  One of them said because the wisdom tooth usually appears at the age of 16 to 25 and parents don't know about it.
Another name of oyashirazu in Japanese is chishi (知歯/智歯) which corresponds with wisdom tooth.
They say these days some young people never have these.
