Today is jyugoya (十五夜), literally the 15th night, meaning full moon night. It is also called chushu no meigetsu (中秋の名月), the harvest moon of August 15 of the lunar calendar.
We view the beautiful moon decorating some dumplings and Japanese pampas grass.
This year I found very cute manju (饅頭), Japanese-style bun stuffed with adzuki-bean paste. Why cute? Because on the surface there was the design of rabbit.
In Japan we believe there are rabbits pounding the rice cake on the moon.
