January 11 is known as kagami biraki (鏡開き), literally mirrow opening, and kura biraki (蔵開き), literally storehouse opening. As a custom we eat kagami mochi (鏡餅) which are round rice cakes offered to the gods at New Year's on this day. I ate them as oshiruko (お汁粉), sweet bean paste soup with rice cake.
