Today is a national holiday called "taiiku no hi (体育の日) " Health and Sports Day. It commemorates the opening of the Tokyo Olympic in 1964. It used be on October 10, but in 2000 it was moved to the second Monday of October to have happy Monday system.
Today I tried the kayak on the lake, river, and ocean and surf-kayak on the ocean for the first time.
In the USA, today, the second Monday of October is Columbus Day, which celebrates the Christopher Columbus' arrival at the new world on October 12, 1492.
When I was working at the Expo '92, which commemorates quincentenary of the Christopher Cloumbus' arrival of the new world , closed on October 12, 1992. This event was the most impressive work for me.
