2015.1.26

It was cloudy.

I should have mentioned yesterday, but Yokozuna Hakuho (横綱 白鵬) became a champion at the first ground sumo championships of this year.
This was his 33rd victory, which is the best record in the sumo world.
What is more, he won 15 matches straight, which was the 11th total winning for him after 10 tournaments. Congratulations!!
There were 1625 prizes in this first tournament which was the most in history and for the last match between Hakuho and Kakuryu(鶴竜) there were 61 prizes which exceeded the maximum limit of 50.
He will be 30 years old in March.
So we can expect more new records will be made in the future.

2012.7.22

It was slightly raining today.
It' s Sunday, but I had the program starting today till next Sunday, I came to Shinjuku (新宿) as usual.
I have been very busy from the morning till late in the evening.
Today is the last day for Nagoya grand sumo wrestling tournament (名古屋場所:nagoya basho).  There were two wrestlers who have won for 14 days straight.  They are Yokozuna Hakuho (横綱白鵬) and Ozeki Harumafuji (大関日馬富士).  They say it's been 5 times since this kind of match was held and it's been 29 years since the last time.  After all Ozeki Harumafuji won and became a champion again. He won in Nagoya last year too.  Congratulations!
Both Hakuho and Harumafuji are from Mongolia.
I hope Japanese wrestlers will be more active.

7月10日(shichigatsu toka): July 10

It was fine and very hot today.

Around 10 in the morning there were rather big earthquakes again.

The grand sumo tournament has begun after two tournaments. It is called shichigatsu basho (七月場所) or Nagoya basho (名古屋場所). Basho means place. Shichigatsu means July. Nagoya is a name of place. Nagoya is the third biggest cities in Japan after Yokohama (横浜) and Osaka (大阪).
I have lived there for 7 months in 2005 when there was Expo 2005.

五月二十四日(gogatsu nijyuyokka): May 24

Natsu basho (夏場所), 2010 May Ground Sumo Tournament has been held from May 9 to 23 at the Ryogoku Kokugikan (両国国技館) in Tokyo. Yokozuna Hakuho (横綱白鵬) took the top division championship with a 15-0 record for his 14th Makuuchi (幕内) division title. Since there was nobody but hakuho that did not lose any matches until 13th day, his victory was fixed without waiting for the last day. And this became his 6th complete victory. He has been winning for 32 matches since this January Ground Sumo Tournament.
Another big news in the sumo world is Ozeki Kaio (大関魁皇) made the 1000 wins yesterday which is the 2nd most winning records in history. The best record is 1045 wins made by ex-Yokozuna Chiyonofuji (横綱千代の富士).
Congratulations!
