It is a rainy day and rather cool.

There is a saying "Atsusa samusa mo higan made (暑さ寒さも彼岸まで)."
It means the heat or coldness lasts until equinox week. It is really true.

Tomorrow we have a 49th day service and put my father's bones and ashes into the grave so that I hope it will be fine.

４月１８日（shigatsu jyuhachi nichi）： April 18

Last week I saw very small buds or new leaves on a ginkgo tree. Today I saw many new leaves on other trees too. They are still very small leaves as one each, but if you look at a tree, it looks green. There are many trees, so they look light green.
In winter there were only trunks and looked brown. In summer leaves become bigger and the color becomes darker. In autumn they become yellow.

When I saw the young leaves today, I thought of donation movement now we are trying. Even if each person's donation is small, in total they become big amount.
Here is a saying, chirimo tsumoreba yamato naru (ちりも積もれば山となる), which means "Many a little makes a mickle" or "Little and often fills the purse"　or "Every little helps."

七月十四日（shichigatsu jyuyokka）： July 14

There was a meeting in the morning. We went out for lunch. There was a nice restaurant I wanted to take them, but it was full and we could not enter. There was another one next door. We tried. But it was full again and we could not enter. So we decided to find other place. At the third one we were escorted to the best room in the restarurant and had a nice lunch. In the middle of eating, the master came and offered us special desserts. We felt very lucky.
There are sayings regarding three. One is nido arukoto wa sando aru (二度あることは三度ある) which means what happened twice surely happens once more so be careful. The other is sandome no shojiki (三度目の正直) which means the third time is the charm. Which do you believe?

六月二十三日（rokugatsu nijyusan nichi）： June 23

From today I am staying at the same hotel as last week again. When I checked in last week, the room smelled of smoking. So I asked to change the room. Today again when I entered the room, it smelled. I asked the front desk to change the room, but non-smoking room was full and I could not change the room at that time.
In the night when I tried to use Internet, I could not, so I called the front desk again to check. After a while, they did not know the reason and decided to change the room. But before changing, they noticed that all the server of the hotel was down and they called the telephone company to reset.
I brought two computers. One for work the other for myself. After finishing using the work computer, I could not connect Internet from my PC. So I called the font desk again to check.
They did not know why I could not connect and offered me to change the room. So I changed and tried to connect but could not. We did not know why. After some minutes struggling, they find the reason. So I am using my PC now.
There is a saying nido aru koto wa sando aru (二度あることは三度ある), which means what happened twice tends to happen again. This is often used for bad things to draw attention.
There is another saying, sando me no shojiki (三度目の正直), which means the third is the charm.
Which do you believe?

五月十二日(gogatsu jyuni nichi) ： May 12

Today I checked in the hotel in Tokyo, but I could not connect the Internet. Since I needed to use Internet, I asked to change the room. Fortunately they offered me the better room. So here is the saying, wazawai wo tenjite fukutonasu (災いを転じて福となす), literally "turn misfortune into a blessing." That is "Make the best of a bad bargain."
Good luck might be seen as bad luck at first.

四月十二日（shigatsu juni nichi）： April 12

It was a very cold rainy day like winter. It is still raining. The weather forecast said it would be warm tomorrow.

I had a chance to visit a library in a university in Tokyo today. At the entrance there was a saying which drew my attention. It was written in Japanese, so I am not sure if I can translate it exactly, but it was:
The important points are to move, to love, to hope, to tremble, and to live.
It is the word of Francois-Auguste-Rene Rodin (1840-1917), who was a famous French sculptor. The Thinker (考える人: kangaeru hito) must be his representative work.
