12月30日(jyuni gatsu sanjyu nichi): December 30

There is only one day left before the new year comes.
On New Year's Eve there used to be two music programs on TV. But one of them has been broadcast one day before since 2006, that is today. It is レコード大賞(rekodo taisho)the Japan Record Award, which has the longest music award history in Japan. It is the 53rd tonight.
Though I did not watch it, according to the news AKB48 got the Award. They released 5 singles this year and they ranked top 5 single sales in all Japan this year. The Award song "Flying Get" was sold about 1,587,000 copies on the first day of its sales.

十二月二十日(jyuni gatsu hatsuka): December 20

The sales ranking of single CD of the year was announced this morning. About 10 years ago, in the top 10 there were 10 artists. But this year there were only 2 artists among top 10. They are AKB48 and Arashi (嵐: Storm). The former is a female group, and the latter is a male group.
No. 1 single CD was Beginner by AKB48 and its sales was about 950,000 copies. No. 2 was Heavy Rotation by AKB48 and its sales was about 710,000 copies. There were 4 songs by AKB48 and 6 songs by Arashi.
Nowadays we can download the music through Internet, therefore fewer people buy original CDs. However in Arashi's case, their songs cannot be downloaded, and they are used for the theme songs of the movies and TV dramas. Therefore they were sold well.
In AKB48's case, if you buy a CD, you can get a ticket to talk or shake hands with the members, therefore many fans bought more than 1 CD.
I have not bought CDs for a long time.

What kind of music do you like? I like popular music.
Tonight there was the TV music program which decided the best hit song of the year, though I did not watch it. It was chosen by the amount of the requests to the cable broadcasting stations around Japan. This was the 42nd award ceremony.
Do you know enka (演歌), Japanese ballad? An enka singer, Hikawa Kiyoshi (氷川きよし) won the grand prix, the most requested singer award, and the most requested song award. He is 32 years old, and this is the 10th year for him to be a singer. It has been two years since he got the grand prix last time, this was the 5th time, and he renewed his record. The awarded song, Rokyokuichidai (浪曲一代) is his 18th single and released on February 4, 2009 and ranked in No. 1.
The best new artist award was given to BIGBANG, the 5 Korean dance vocal unit. They say this is the first time to be given the award to foreign group artists. They made a debut in June by "My Heaven."
